Hi! Are really good the images, light, and the refresh of frames in that webcam in linux?

Are you tested other distros with that laptop?

    Could you copy and paste here a ” lspci -v ” ?

Had you any problem more for configuring the dv2000? I’m thinking buy that laptop but I don’t know how much compatible is with linux.

    What exactly model is yours?

    Thanks, thanks, thanks a lot. = :-D

  2. Amit

    I received following error message
cd: /lib/modules/2.6.15-1.2054_FC5/build: No such file or directory

  3. Carlos

    I have a dv2000t and installed Slackware 11.0 (Kernel 2.6.17) on it
and using a KDE 3.5 Desktop.

I checked my /proc file system and found that
my webcam is revision 62 just like yours.

    I got the linux-uvc driver from http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/linux-uvc/
    but it was revision 66.

I was able to compile it under Slackware and load it via modprobe.

However, I could not access it in Kopete (Ekiga does not come
with KDE) or when I run…

    # xsane /dev/video0

    or

    # xsane /dev/v4l/video0

Maybe it’s because I did not get the revision 62 source code.

If you still have the revision 62 source code could you please
send it to me as an email attachement?

    :^)

  5. zac

Carlos where can I email revision 62 to?

  6. Terry Burton

No need to email old revisions around. You can always check out any previous revision from a subversion repository with a command like this:

    svn checkout http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/linux-uvc/

That’s one of the features that makes version control so useful.

    Hope this helps,

    Tez

  7. Terry Burton

    Oops, that should have read:

    svn checkout -r 62 http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/linux-uvc/

  8. Jerry V

I installed Slack 11.0 and i cant get my wireless card to work on it, the thing also is i have this model but came with out a camera

YOu should try using ndsiwrapper and windows 2000 inf files to config your wireless, its pretty easy to install.
    1. Download ndiswapper and install it as usual.
    2. install the driver with: ndsiwrapper -i /path_to_inf_file
    3. config your device with iwconfig.
    iwconfig eth1 ESSID XXXXX
    iwconfig eth1 key restricted XXXXXX

Ive seen a wiki about it, try searching it in google

  12. Miguel

mMmMm… This could be fool, but, Do i have to install the spca5xx driver? If i have to, How can i do it? I don`t know too much about linux, by the way, i got revision 79, does it matter? My lap is a Hp DV2120LA

  13. Junior

Eh, I feel real stupid. I’m a complete newbie.

Could anybody explain this steb by step? I don’t know what revision you’re talking about. And the command “cd linux-uvc/linux-uvc/trunk/” gives me “there’s no such directory”… :s

Am I supposted tp copy-paste the code from the other webside?

    I’m a confused linux-newbie

  14. ben maddocks

Yeah fo rthose who are not running ekiga the usb cam wont work, the driver is V4L2 compatable only and ekiga is th eonly app I have found to work. When it comes to the wireless card for the dv2000 its a mini-pcie broadcom card, either use ndiswrapper or upgrade to the latest kernel and use the bcm43xx-d80211 driver. Other then the only things worth mentioning is the Bios will reserve 256mb of ram for video and the Nvidia drivers will only use 64mb (the bios doesnt let you preset) Ive heard rumors of a Nvidia, Broadcom, AMD64 X2 problem where the wireless nic crash’s (fixed with latest kernel drivers).

  15. James c stanley

I recently upgraded my dv2000 to Vista 64 bit now my camera does’nt work. Anyone know where to get the drivers?

  16. Herbert

    Hi there,

I compiled and modprobed the uvcvideo, revision 8x, but when I open Eckiga, I only find the V4L option, not any V4L2 option.
I find the following modules in lsmod:

    v4l1_compat 28548 2 uvcvideo,videodev
    v4l2_common 41472 2 uvcvideo,videodev

I’m using Suse 10.2 in a dv2120us. Any idea on how to get v4l2 working?
    Thanks
    Herbert

  17. Herbert

Got the version 62 and it works now…

  18. Thorsten Scherler

    Hi all,

I am using SVN Head (ATM rev 89) and thanks to Zac I got it working in no time.

    Thanks very much dude.

    Any upates on this appreciated.

    TIA

    Hello folks,

I am just an ordinary kind of guy who just bought a new dv2000 HP pavilion laptop and discovered that the webcam is not working. I came to the web to see if others had encountered this kind of problem.

I will be grateful if somebody will give detailed explanation on how to get the cam to work. I must confess that I don’t understand terms likes “modprobed”, “uvcvideo”, “Eckiga”, etc, which have been freely used in the explanations above.

    Thanks in advance.

    Obed

  22. Ev

James c stanley, use same as Xp drivers, download from HP
Obed Ogbulie, maybe downloading the drivers from HP.
by the way guys, this is a linux post :P, nothing to do with Vista or XP

  23. me

Just confirming, this also works on a DV9000

  24. helo

hello.i have a hp pavilion dv 2000 laptop .and i need a drivers for xp but not linux s becuose .linux drivers not worked with windows xp.can i help me????

  25. roger

you can go to windows movie maker then click capture from device and go from there

  26. Sameer

Thanks for posting this.. I haven’t got it to work, though

I have a Dv9000 laptop with the same webcam (I think).. I tried the above with both revision 62 and revision 100, and ekiga said no devices found.. dmesg returns the following:

    [17182021.576000] usbcore: deregistering driver uvcvideo
[17182032.720000] Linux video capture interface: v1.00

[17182032.724000] usbcore: registered new driver uvcvideo
[17182032.724000] USB Video Class driver (v0.1.0)

seems the webcam is “off” or something.. any ideas?

  27. Inxsible

Can we get the cam working with anything other than ekiga ?
OR How the hell do I make a video call to my contacts in GTalk or yahoo with ekiga ?

  28. Me

Just wanted to mention that using Ubuntu 7.04 the web cam was automatically recognized and Ekiga is able to use it out of the box.

I tried to install my wireless with ndiswrapper, but i havent gotten it to work. im using slack 11.0 and tomorrow im upgrading to 12.0. i used ndiswrapper to try getting it to work. i had to get the drivers for my dv2000z and actually got them compiled. my question is does it have to be in a specific directory or can it be anywhere, i thought it doesnt matter maybe compiling will input it to the kernel.

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop with a built in web cam. The Web cam doesn’t work. I tried to install

“HP Webcam Driver with Firmware Upgrade for Microsoft Windows Vista”

On the HP Site under downloads.
It still doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

Here’s some more related information for anyone that didn’t find a resolution for their HP Pavilion laptop webcam.Recently, I had the chance to install Windows Vista on a number of HP laptops with the built-in web cam. The first thing I wanted to do was test out the laptop’s web cam since it had been staring at me all throughout the simple installation. After a little exploring I noticed that there wasn’t a clear program that allows operation of the laptop’s the built-in web cam and so I decided to write a few help pages for the HP Pavilion laptop camera issues with Vista. Hopefully this will help someone out or at least provide the link to the site that helps some of you out.

Does anyone know what CMOS Image Sensor is used in this HP Pavilion series? I know the controller is the Sonix but I am not sure which CMOS Image Sensor is used and I really need to know and to get the datasheet for it.

    Thank you,
